whaddya mean i have a blog? i dont know what you're talkin... oh wait...

wow. I've been here for over a year now. how nuts. sadly, these adventures are soon drawing to a close. next week will see the last of my dastardly deeds, with the visit of Mr Jeremy Ewing and Brother Ewing. After that? Packing, (painful) goodbyes, passports, planes, and.. Halifax.

last two months have passed far too quickly. I will really miss the close friends I've made, and they've said they will miss me as well. ahh geez. this saturday HMV is throwing me a little party. it should be a riot.

but there's sweet with this bitter ending. i'll be seeing most of you in Halifax, where I get to live with ol' Mike Barnes and the man himself, Myles Deck. And, if HMV Halifax's manger holds true to her word, I'll be working in a supervisor position upon my return at the HMV on Spring Garden Rd.

well, thanks for reading. hope to see you in mid November. keep an eye out for me.

Idiocy 101

adventure time... excuse the shameless switching of tenses.

it had been such a good night. the music was shaking walls and asses, the drink was flowing with ease, the laughter boomed, and i was having a truly great saturday night. but as time wore on, i decided to ship out. it was roughly 1:30am, and it had been a tiring work day. waving goodbye to angie, natalie, some american girl, and someone else who's identity escapes me at the moment, (the memory circuits responsible for this individual must have gone up in flames following that last quick pint) i left Whelan's nightclub for home.

the bus was just a short walk away. the good ol' 46A. recognized city-wide as one of the best buslines. getting on the bus proved simple.. just a quick step up to the driver, pay my 4 euro fare ,(damn late night charges) and off to the upper deck.

now. the journey home usually takes 30-40 minutes, so i decided to put on my headphones and treat my ears to some energetic boogie woogie. i'd get about 5 songs in before my stop. this was also a good opportunity to rest my eyes. yes, rest.

some time later...

wha? where is this...? this isnt dubin... where is everyone else on the bus? aw fuck... this cant be right. no wait, there's a guy. im not the only one on the bus. why is my cd not playing anymore? oh no.

the bus is stopping... that dude's getting off. there's no one else here.

<> "last stop; repeat, last stop" <>

goddamn.

so i get off the bus before ms busdriver gives my any looks. looking around i realized i had no fucking clue where i was. further wandering revealed a sign... "Dalkey: a heritage town". fuck! i fell asleep on the bus! it was late! i had no money. ie. no cab ride for dan. no nothing actually, because dalkey is 2 towns south of the fair city of dublin. a pleasant little community full of retirees.

time to walk. la de da..

eons later i arrived in dun laorghie. (pronounced dun leary) where i was able to find an atm. now the hunt for a cab began.

eons later i found a cab driven by a surly ol' arse of a man who, fortunately, decided not to engage me in dull cabbie banter.

anyway. unneccessarily long story, short, i got home hours after i'd left. my night fouled by my own carelessness, though i do attribute partial blame to the delightfully comfortable DublinBus buses.

im sorry if this all seems anti climactic, but im hungover now, and dont feel like typing anymore.

for your amusement, i suggest you explore this

ahh paul mccartney... where would we be without you?

i'd tell you where we'd be, but then that'd be no fun.

it's friday night and i gots no plans. that used to be a point of worry, but now, in my infinite wisdom, i realize that it's not a real big deal.
unlike those Leon's ho, ho hold the payments deals.... those rock my world.

baaaaaand on the run...

back in the ussr... er... dublin

good to be back, but different now. when i first saw my brother sean a couple weeks ago, he asked me whether it felt like i was coming home or not. i was honestly unsure. it didnt seem like coming home in the sense of returning to a familiar house. i havent had that sort of home since mum moved out of the house where i grew up when i left for university 5 years ago. but at the same time, there's a certain comfort involved when i was around faminly and friends those 10 days in NS. Sean knew what i was thinking when he said, "well, when you return to dublin, ask yourself if it feels like you're coming home, or returning to an extended vacation."

two weeks later... here i am again. now, the question is, what now?

the idea of living in halifax for a while is looking really good these days. i think i might have to return this fall. had a really great time being around the good people of that city.

but until then, i have some dastardly deeds to do.

u2

my first stadium gig was u2 last saturday, 2 hours 20 minutes of mile-high madness.

i've learned this:
- stadiums are fucking huge
- concerts are infinitely better at night as opposed to under daylight
- 80000 people boggles the mind
- you dont really get nosebleeds at stadium gigs, even when you are one bloody row from the very top

setlist:

Vertigo
Out of Control
Electric Co (rockin')
Elevation (heavily changed from previous versions...)
New Year's Day
Beautiful Day
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (really wanted to hear this; glad i did)
All I Want Is You
City of Blinding Lights (finally, it's dark out and i can see what a fucking amazing light show this tour features)
Miracle Drug
Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own
Love and Peace or Else (hooooooollllly mother was this good. the band let loose and wig out at the end)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Bullet the Blue Sky (new geetar solo, longer than previous versions)
Running to Stand Still (fucking morons behind me would not shut up)
Pride (In the Name of Love)
Where the Streets Have No Name (highlight)
One

encore:
Zoo Station
The Fly (i love you Edge)
Mysterious Ways
Party Girl (bono pulled some dude out of the aduience who played guitar with the band for this song)
All Because of You
Yahweh (featured larry on keyboards... so much better than that crap album version)
Vertigo (..take 2, sounded ferocious)
